TERASIA Online Week 2022

Indonesia 2022

From Indonesia, Dindon W.S. has been a part of TERASIA since the very beginning of the project in May 2020. He is the theatre director of Teater Kubur (meaning “graveyard theatre,” since their studio is located next to a graveyard), which has been active for nearly 40 years. Out of all the countries that TERASIA members are from, Indonesia is the only one where Muslims make up the majority of the population, but TERASIA’s vision of international collaboration amidst the pandemic, as well as the universal themes of life, death, and belief in TERA resonated with them.

The members of Teater Kubur gather in their studio for their training every weekday night, regardless of whether they are preparing for a public performance. In September 2022, when TERASIA artists visited Jakarta from various countries, the group observed Teater Kubur’s work-in-progress, a physical theatre performance titled, TERA Indonesia: Ritus Bocor. We witnessed how the piece keeps evolving each day through their collective creation.

They are about to begin a tour of their performance in cities in Java from December 2022. For TERASIA Online Week 2022, Dindon W.S. will share his reflections on participating in TERASIA and how he envisions the new work-in-progress and Sua TERASIA.
